Atlanta Steeplechase April 24th, 2010
The steeplechase is an incredible day of horse racing while jumping obstacles. This is a fun day for the entire family. It is an all day event that also includes music, food, tailgate parties, an air show, a petting zoo and pony rides. Last year there was also the frisbie dog championships and the year before dog racing.
The Dixie Highway 90 Mile Yard Sale June 4th, 5th, and 6th, 2010
The yard sale brings visitors back to a simpler time. This yard sale represents 13 different communities along the Dixie Highway from Marietta Georgia to Dalton Georgia. A must for those who love crafts and yard sales. Most of the communities represented will also be having their own festivals that weekend.
Charlie Maxwell Memorial Ride September 17th, 2010
This is the official motorcycle ride for tots that departs from Cartersville Georgia and meets up with the Trail of Tears Motorcycle Ride in Chattanooga Tennesee. This ride honors our Native Americans.
Allatoona Pass Battlefield Anniversary Date TBA
This is a learning experience for those who are interested in the Civil War. There are tours of the battlefield and demonstrations of artillery. Local civil war reinactors dress up in their finest Civil War clothes and show the public a soldier's life. The Mooney house which was the hospital during the battle is open for the weekend for tours at certain times during the day. This is a small operation so check with Redtop Mountain State Park or the Etowah Valley Historical Society to make sure that it will be put on in 2009.
The Annual Etowah Valley Indian Festival Date TBA
Enjoy this great festival near the native lands of the Etowah Indians. While you are here see the ancient Indian mounds and museum.
It runs all weekend and has traditional dance, foods, crafts, jewelry and storytelling.
John Wisdom Wagon Train and Trail Ride
This is an annual horseback riding event that occurs usually on the third weekend of October every year. This ride commemorates the heroic ride of mail carrier John Widsom, who rode eleven hours to warn Rome of the impending attack. Thus, he saved Rome from early destruction from the union forces. Contact the Rome Georgia Visitor center for more information.
Tellus Northwest Georgia Science Museum
A new facility that opened in January 2009. This science museum is a great place to explore science and search the stars.
Booth Western Museum
Open daily. This is a great western art museum. It also features local artists and has some great non western art. They have different themes and shows through the year.
